Blacksburg Rescue also supports a number of specialized teams to provide a very diverse response capability. Our Heavy and Tactical Rescue Team (HTR) specializes in technical rescue including: Vehicle Extrication, Confined Space Rescue, Trench Rescue, Vertical Rescue, Woodland Rescue, Cave Rescue and Hazardous Materials Decontamination and Rescue.
Our Junior Crew provides experience and training to younger members of our community. The BVRS Junior Crew accepts individuals over the age of 16 still in high school. You can download an application, or contact us for more information. Junior members run calls along with senior members but are somewhat restricted in the duties they may perform.
The BVRS Bike Rescue Team provides specialized EMS response on customized bicycles. The team is a valuable resource during large town events such as the Town of Blacksburg's Steppin' Out and Virginia Tech football games. The bicycles can maneuver through crowds and provide critical interventions until the ambulance arrives for transport.
